A Chamber Jazz Group
The musical guiding stars of Pan Trio are sensuality and joy of living. Qualities that were also attributed to the Greek God Pan, from which the group has derived its name.
With the somewhat orginal setting, flute, guitar and contrabass, Pan Trio has over nearly 20 years created its very personal style and very own sound. They could be classified as a chamber jazz group. Pan Trio has opted to play without drums which is especially challenging for the musicians but also giving them a certain freedom.
The Trio Consists of:
Staffan Hallgren - Flute
Played jazz music on flute as early as in the 50:s with the leading jazzmusicians in Sweden at that time. After this he opted for a career as a naval officer without giving up the flute completely. Today Staffan dedicates all his time to jazz music, having left the navy as a commander.
Hans Hallgren - Bass
Is Staffans younger brother. It takes a special talent to play bass in a group without drums. His driving bass force makes him the perfect bass player for this trio. Hans is also pursuing a successful research on paper and cellulose.
Ola Bengtsson - Guitar
Grew up in the south of Sweden, but moved to Stockholm after musical studies in the US. He has been a member of Pan Trio for 15 years. Ola plays in many other constellations like the Stockholm Jazz Orchestra. He also teaches and partly runs the jazzdepartment at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm.
